You promised a new version of NomadBSD based on FreeBSD 14.3 (which was the latest release at the time I asked, but had already been out long before my request). Now FreeBSD 15.0 has been released, and we are still stuck at 141R-20240711.

I believe they need the time it takes with no hurry, they do it for free after all, can just hope will carry on mantaining the project. 14.1 is working fine enough and turns the FreeBSD in a more user-friendly and portable system.

But while you are waiting, it is actually possible to update your NomadBSD to use FreeBSD 14.3 under the hood!
Take a āboot environmentā snapshot and use the documentation on the FreeBSD.org website.
If at first it fails, you can roll back to the snapshot you took before the update and try again 
If my memory serves me correctly, only the update from 14.2 to 14.3 took 2 tries because of qt version changeā¦
DONāT be discouraged! Itās a learning opportunity

I updated in several steps every time a new release was available. Learning in small stepsā¦

additionally, I think the project founders are waiting for others to take the initiative to learn the code and upgrade the distribution without them. FreeBSD 15 is apparently a landmark release, so itÅ not a waste of time to learn it.

Does this refer to the command before ( freebsd-update install ) or after ( freebsd-update upgrade -r 15.0-RELEASE ) ? I would have expected some kine of freebsd-update patch command.
The HTTPS certificate on this website is expired. Chromium reports it as not safe.

The design of NomadBSD makes it impractical to upgrade on your own (even though itās technically possible). This is so obvious that I donāt feel the need to elaborate further. Please donāt suggest upgrading manually. An updated NomadBSD image is urgently needed. Why donāt any of you recognize this and instead keep repeating the mantra that āthey do it for freeā? Please tell me directly: Is this project dead? I prefer running from a USB, but Iām also open to preparing an SSD for a full GhostBSD installation. Please donāt waste our time by keeping us waiting. Thank you.
Let me get this straight: who are you to expect anything? You knew from the start that this is a free and voluntary initiative. If you donāt like it, the doors are open and you can go elsewhere, is that clear? But think about who youāre dealing with!
also to mention that meantime weāre free to deal with its āmothersystemā FreeBSD, which will embed KDE desktop in the next release 15.1 installation menu. Not an impossible mission to afford, being many good videotutorial online. By targeting the installation on an USB stick will give you same portability as NomadBSD.
Yes, continuity (upgradabity) would be a highly desirable and welcome feature, but there was no such obligation from the outset, NomadBSD has a different (temporary) purpose. Nevertheless, anyone who is willing and able can contribute to the updater ā it is under development, just not yet finished.

First the obvious:

Upgrading NomadBSD manually is not optimal, BUT a perfectly fine first step to do your own desktop installation from the ground up - or a learning experience in how FreeBSD functionsā¦
I trust other users are capable of taking their own decisions.
Also I see NomadBSD as a āgateway drugā to FreeBSD just like pfSense and earlier FreeNAS/TrueNAS(now hopefully zVault) and PC-BSD.
See my posts like a helping hand for the users going in that direction.

Yes, in the far future I aspire to actively contribute to FreeBSD.
In the meantime by posting on ie. this forum, hopefully it will nudge other users in the same direction or just help them along with a problem.
Wouldnāt it have been more helpful, if your post was formulated as an (elaborated - even if it is obvious) advise to other users without a pointing finger - but you do youā¦

FreeBSD 14.1 (used in latest NomadBSD) has been EOLāed and thereby unsafe since 31 Mar 2025.
NomadBSD disappeared from the FreeBSD Projectās Resources for Newbies.
