So my Nomad install worked and with some help a month or so back i got sound by connecting my little Bose speaker to the monitor (connected with display port)
I leave the computer along for a month while at home on leave, come back update packages and now nothing…well not quite nothing, itś back to coming out of some tinny little internal speaker within the computer.
DSB Mixer was doing funny things, jumping all over the place but that seems stable now. thereś 3 selectable boxes (mixer 3*), 1 below Vol that works to mute, that works. The other selectables are Spkr and Line.

I’ve tried each of the ‘default devices’ psm0-psm4. Doesn make any difference. Tried plugging into the monitor, front and back of computer.

I can play mkv, mp4 and avi movie files with sound, just no sound from interweb/youtube ?

using the built in mpv Media Player

Must be a Firefox issue. I get sound with Chromium (it displays the Chrome symbol?)

Please post the output that you get from Firefox when you start it in a terminal.

it just starts and returns

I click on the new window, select some video and the sound is back to the crappy inbuilt computer speaker

There is probably another instance of Firefox running. Close it first.

Closed firefox, restarted and same again?

Close Firefox, then start it in a terminal so that you can get its debugging messages.

i closed it and started it from the terminal. No messages came up
