Hi just checked Octopkg says i have over 300 updates, i see elsewhere it broke the system, if it the system seems to be working ok is it safe to leave them and not update.
Hi Rother,
The first thing ro do is update the kernel.
just type
freebsd-update fetch
freebsd-update install
You can do
freebsd-version
like that you will see from whay version are you.
And after that
pkg audit -F
That will bring you all the cve ( vulnerability) . You can correct them by each time install the new version.
Or remove some like filezilla.
pkg remove filezilla.
My politic is update only what you need.

Hi did the fetch/install got thus far
14.1-RELEASE-p2
WARNING: FreeBSD 14.1-RELEASE-p2 HAS PASSED ITS END-OF-LIFE DATE.
Any security issues discovered after Tue Apr 1 01:00:00 BST 2025
will not have been corrected.
Does that mean the iso,s on the download section are always out of date.
Yes they are, we are waiting a new release.
My kernel version is FreeBSD 14.1-RELEASE-p7.
It’s better to have the newest version.
Maybe that can help yo solve your issue with the WiFi.
pkg audit -F
let you see what do you have to update .
If you want to be safe from hole of security.
Michel
Can’t believe it i have broke it again, tried to upgrade Firefox as it said it wasn’t secure but cannot login doesn’t recognise password.
I am giving it a miss till the new version comes out
Paul
Hi ,
That happens to me in the past too.
It’s a story with sddm.
pkg info -D sddm
sddm-0.21.0:
On upgrade from sddm<0.18.1_4:
SDDM user’s home directory have been moved to /var/lib/sddm. It is advised to run
following commands as root:
pw usermod -n sddm -d /var/lib/sddm
pwd_mkdb /etc/master.passwd
mv /usr/local/etc/sddm/home/state.conf /var/lib/sddm/state.conf
rm -rf /usr/local/etc/sddm/home
On install:
SDDM lists a “user session” which needs either an .xinitrc in the user’s
home directory, or as a fallback, xterm. In order to use the “user session”
feature, a ~/.xinitrc is recommended.
I don’t remenber how I did. And maybe I post an issue about that.
Here is the link where the pb is fixed
Michel
Hi just tried doesn’t help, when i look at the files/folders left on the usb there’s only a boot folder the rest are gone, when i upgraded firefox the prompt presumably cleans up and i select yes then it leaves me where i am , should I say no at this point.
Do we know when next version is due.
Hi,
You can just do an another install.
When you upgrade the system. I advice to not upgrade big soft like Firefox and remove instead the soft you do need .
We are wanting for a new release . Read some post give like .
Michel
Hi yes went back a release, works fine if i don’t mess with it.
Many thanks
Yes it’s better like that don’t update big soft like Firefox . remove filezilla because it’s useless.
Read some post give some like.
Have a nice week end !
Michel
