Install fails on boot

I’m trying to create a key to use NomadBSD on my new work laptop, a lenovo Carbon x1 12th Gen.

It fails on boot with

[drm ERROR : fw_domain_wait_ack_set] gt: timed out waiting for forcewake ack request.
drmn0: [drm 0xffffffff83430074s] 0xfffffe0160df8718Vdrmn0: [drm] mslice mask all zero!
panic: vm_fault_lookup: fault on nonfault entry, addr: 0xfffffe0161d6c000

I took a picture.

Does this rings a bell to anyone? Are there UFI/Bios settings I should change to to fix? Anything I should test?

Ludo

Congrats on your new laptop!

Looks like your graphics is failing to initialize…

So your Thinkpad has an ‘Intel Core Ultra’ CPU.
Looks like it’s not fully supported on all versions yet - have a look at the quirks on this page in the FreeBSD Wiki. FreeBSD 15.0 has DRM 6.6

Looking in the ‘Hardware for BSD’ database, I can only find up to the “X1 carbon 11th gen.” models.

Maybe do some more searching/research on your CPU…

Regards
Ludensen

For persons that came here via search:
On older Thinkpads the problem might be solved with one of these fixes:

  1. some older Thinkpads needs to have enabled “Compatibility Support Module” (CSM) in BIOS.
  2. Other older Thinkpads needs a ‘lenovofix’ during install to overcome a BIOS-bug.
Search for ‘lenovofix’ in FreeBSD Forums or:

> man gpart
(use search “/” by typing)
/lenovofix [return]

I ended up doing more testing Yesterday.

14.3 releases based of ghostbsd ended up having the same issue.

I was able to run base 15 release. Guess I’ll need to wait for a 15 based Nomad release.
