Image conversion for VMware Fusion

So far the only way I have been able to base a VMware Fusion VM for testing Nomad is to use VirtualBox and the docs with a modification:

VBoxManage convertfromraw nomadbsd-1.3.1.img nomadbsd-1.3.1.vmdk --format VMDK

Does anyone know of a method to use the raw .img without using VirtualBox utilities to create a VMware disk image on macOS?

qemu-img will work however you would still need to brew bleh bleh on the mac
